1992 NEW JERSEY

Old mills and waterwheels are relatively common in rural north Jersey where I grew up. A miniature waterwheel at Ringwood Manor State Park always was a highlight on my visits there and a similar one provides a background for this year's hand-painted MILFORD. A greater scaup (also known as a bluebill) swims in the miII pond. The beautiful green sheen of this duck's head and the subtle reflections in the water dominate the foreground while the solid old mill presents a perfect backdrop.

The new stamp has a First Day cancel from the northwest Jersey community of Stillwater which stilI maintains its quaint country charm. Stamp serial numbers on this MILFORD were 10651 to 10885.
