The specJ-es chosen this year for the National Canadian Duck stamp was the Common Eider. A pictorial Day of issue postmark from Ottawa ties the stamp to the cover. 250 MILFORDS were produced for this issue.

Wanting a bold and dynamic cachet, I chose to show a pair of eiders in a close-up pose featuring head and facial details. The result, set against a marshland background, is a dramatic example of migratory bird art.
