Ring-Necked Ducks by Reed Prescott
Fred's Anecdotal Note
1994 VERMONT
Golden autumn leaves provide a fitting New England backdrop for this detailed study of a pair of ringneck ducks. Note how the hand-painted cachet allows superb detail of expression and feathers. Note the subtle brown circle around the male's neck which accounts for the specie's name. Blurred reflections cast on a hint of still water provide a gentle extra touch.
The bold five-dollar stamp offers a decoy against a white field with a marshland in the background over which fIy a trio of ducks. A brilliant blue border completes the stamp design. For the postmark site I chose Shelbourne ,Vermont, home of the famous and beautiful Shelbourne Museum Village which j-ncludes perhaps the finest decoy collection in the country. 740 MILFORD Covers were done for this issue.
