Maine 1995
White-winged Scoters by Richard Alley
Fred's Anecdotal Note
MAINE 1995
Making its first ever appearance on a MILFORD Cover is the unusual white-winged scoter. In this hand-painted cachet, the scoter swims in a quiet cove along the rocky coast of Maine at twilight time. Brightly colored buildings clustered next to an equally bright lighthouse provide a marked contrast to the pastel shades of sky and water created by the fading daylight. Unseen by those on the surface including the scoter, a lobster scrambles along the bottom amid vegetation and shell creatures.
Only 140 of these covers were produced. A nice Augusta postmark ties the stamps to the envelope.
