Michigan 1995

Blue-winged Teal by Rod Lawrence

Fred's Anecdotal Note

1995 MICHIGAN

Along Lake Superior's shoreline on Michigan's Upper Peninsula you will find an unusua and beautiful example of Mother Nature's handiwork. High Iightly colored stone cliffs featuring chimney-Iike formations at their top rise from the water's edge. At the base of these cliffs the water is emerald green and then becomes increasingly Iighter until it finally becomes lake blue. Fittingly, the name of this grand panorama is "pictured rocks" and it has been designated a national lakeshore site.

A blue-winged teal flies across this hand-painted MILFORD as the pictured rocks and amazing water provide a 1ove1y setting. An actual photo provided the reference for this scene and the watercolors give a true account of this Great Lakes treasure. Only 140 covers were done for this issue and the $4.35 stamp is postmarked at Lansing.
