1996 Maine

A Pine Marten peers down from its perch in a young pine tree as a Blue-Winged Teal flaps its wings and causes a commotion. The aggressive behavior by the duck indicates that it is protecting either a nest or a brood of unseen young. Both creatures seem mutually startled by the confrontation. An expansive lake provides a scenic setting and a bush of abundant Maine blueberries is seen at lower right.

A nice magenta postmark from Augusta ties the $2.50 stamp to the cover. Orly 140 of this handpainted MILFORD were produced.
