Collins Cover Announcement

Limited Edition Land Bridge

WOOLY MAMMOTH

This special cover was produced only for COLLINS subscribers and only in subscription numbers. It is not available to non-subscribers and no extras are available. Since it was produced in such limited numbers it will truly be a key item in any COLLINS collection. It joins the "Woodduck in Apple Tree" (M1802) as the second limited edition 1991 cover done just for COLLINS subscribers. Making these covers available to "subscribers only" is my way of saying thank you for your support.

The hand-painted cachet captures this large hairy beast. It stands on a rise of ground with the land bridge area seen below. A mountain range rises majestically in the background. Sweeping curved tusks and a shaggy coat are the main characteristics of this huge creature.

"The wooly mammoth adjusted so easily to its new

environment that it thrived and multiplied, becoming one of the most successful examples of immigration.

When such elephants moved slowly north they gradually converted themselves into creatures almost ideally suited to life in the high Arctic zones.. .A thick covering of hair whose individual strands could be as long as forty inches.. .they were so covered with this hair that they looked like unkempt walking blankets."
