Bubble Communities

This is the final COLLINS Cover in the Space Fantasy set done in a "comic strip" style that is very different from my usual cachets. In this FDC which concludes the series, harsh planetary environments have necessitated entire "mini-cities" which travel in perpetual journeys via domed space ships. Three such futuristic cities fly in formation over an ocean dominated planet. A sunrise just developing over the horizon provides an interesting effect. Two other "water planets" with visible large islands orbit in nearby space. A small asteroid belt through which the domed ships are flying present no hazard to the heavily protected self-contained bubble communities.

The stamp on this one is a little unusual as the design extends onto the selvage margin which I've left intact. Thus, it is actually an over-sized stamp compared to the others in the set with a larger and fuller design area. It has the First Day postmark from Huntsville, home of the Alabama Space Center. A nice cover to finish off this series of stamps as space fantasy is just that as whole cities glide through the universe. Bubble Communities. Item #F2102. $10.75.
