This hand-painted cachet is a very intricate and detailed one. As you look at it, I urge you to consider how much time the hand painting takes. Look at the designs in the dresses. Look at the garden foliage. Look at the hanging pots. Consider that it is the individual hand painting of each and every COLLINS cachet that makes my covers so special. I also like how the background paints of this cachet make it coordinate so well with the colors of the stamp. At the same time I take the opportunity to bring brightness and life to the cover by using crisp and vivid colors in the dresses. An interesting COLLINS. For the text on this one I decided on a thin script with just the title used. I did not want to distract from the artwork, and I think the visual balance of stamp, cancel, text, and cachet on this COLLINS is one of those subtle things that is not often thought about but nevertheless is there.

"Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott was published in two volumes in 1868 and 1869. It was a novel aimed at young girls and women and was an immediate and overwhelming success. It inspired a new mass audience of readers who were able to purchase inexpensively priced books.
