Grace Kelly

Princess of Monaco, Actress

Collins Cover Announcement

GRACE KELLY

One of America's all-time favorites was movie actress Grace Kelly. She starred in eleven films including "High Noon", "Dial M for Murder", "Rear Window", "To Catch a Thief", and "High Society". Director Alfred Hitchcock considered her the perfect heroine due to her "sexual elegance".

Known for her classic beauty and charm, Grace Kelly decided to leave the glamorous lifestyle of Hollywood and on April 18, 1956 married Prince Rainier III of Monaco. From that point on she was known as Princess Grace.

In 1954 Miss Kelly won an Oscar for her performance in the film "Country Girl". My hand-painted cachet pictures that Oscar and a reel of movie film. Also shown is the royal couple on their wedding day with the Princess in the traditional white gown and the Prince in his dress military uniform. Most of the cachet, however, is devoted to a large oval portrait of Miss Kelly in which I've tried to capture her serene dignity.

The new stamp is postmarked on First day of Issue in Hollywood, California. My cachet design is apportioned to three aspects of Miss Kelly's life. In the center is Grace, the person, captured by her portrait. To the left is Grace, the actress, represented by the Academy Award Oscar and film reel. To the right is Grace, the Princess, shown with her husband on their wedding day.

An American heroine -- Grace Patricia Kelly of Philadelphia. Item #J2101. $10.75.
