The hand-painted cachet on this COLLINS captures the lighthearted antics of one of the world's most recognized symbols of laughter and fun--the circus clown. Three cavorting clowns romping on a grassy area just outside the main tent set the tone for this circus cover. Painted faces, red noses, ruffled collars, and brightly colored costumes with stripes and polka dots are vivid examples of how hand painting truly enhances the art of cachetmaking.

The stamp is postmarked in Washington, D.C. As with the previously offered elephant cover in this set, the text has the word "CIRCUS" in large, individually hand painted letters. It is an extra touch that will make this set easily identifiable as one of the best for the issue.
