Collins Cover Announcement

CIRCUS - ELEPHANT

In a definite first, the U.S. Postal Service arranged for a circus elephant to administer the first cancel on Issue Date to the new circus stamps. King Tusk, said to be the largest land mammal traveling the world today, canceled a giant replica of the stamps with his foot and they eventually will be on display at the new national Postal Museum. He joined Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1987 and weighs more than 7-1/2 tons.

Fittingly, I chose to first offer my elephant hand-painted cachet for this popular set. He is performing under the bigtop in front of a full house. A beautiful trainer puts him through his routine. It is a brightly painted and up-lifting cachet -even the "circus" text is hand painted in six different cheerful colors. It is realistically done but not gaudy or artificial -- sure to be among the most sought-after cachets for these new stamps. Coming soon will be my other three for this set -Ringmaster, Clown, and Trapeze Aerialist. All will be dandy representatives of the Greatest Show on Earth -- the Circus!

Item #L2104 - $10.75.
