Jersey Joe Walcot Title Bout Cachet

Subscriber-Only Edition

Collins Cover Announcement

Subscriber Only Limited Edition

JOE LOUIS

This 1993 First Day Cover joins the January Elvis Presley "Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear" COLLINS as the second Limited Edition of the year done only for subscribers As such it is a prime collectible and a special COLLINS variety that will certainly claim a top spot in 'Sports" and Boxing" collections.

Joe Louis was an outstanding boxer and this COLLINS does an excellent job of capturing the man. It is a double hand-painted cachet with the stamp and cancel separating the two. To the right, Louis is seen in a historic bout with Jersey Joe Walcott. It's a fine action-packed scene and note how the blended watercolors in the background add so much visual appeal that only hand painting can achieve. To the left is a portrait of a young Joe Louis based on an early photograph. It captures his muscular frame but, more importantly, the confident expression of this great American and sportsman.

The stamp is canceled on issue date with a Detroit postmark where he began his boxing career winning 54 amateur bouts--43 of them by knockouts. This cover is not available to nonsubscribers and, since it has only been done for subscribers, it can be considered an instant "sell out". This FOC is colorful and will always be difficult to locate on the open market making it a key addition to your COLLINS collection. A superb athlete. An American hero. Joe Louis. Item #U2101. $9.75. Note: As is always the case on "subscriber only" covers, no extras are available.
