The "surrey with the fringe on top" meanders down a western lane toward the distant mountains. Cuddled together in the surrey, the newlyweds drive off into the future with a "Just Married" sign on the back of the carriage. To give the cachet a truly western flair, a lasso or lariat effect is used for a border. Hand-painted letters form a large "Oklahoma!" and a combination of type-style plus a slanting and swerving presentation give this COLLINS FDC an up-beat and up-lifting look. It is a very nice companion piece to the "Porgy and Bess" already offered.

"Oklahoma" is the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical masterpiece that became one of America's favorite Broadway shows. It was based on the 1931 play "Green Grow the Lilacs". It debuted on Broadway fifty years ago. The stamp is fittingly postmarked with a New York City First Day cancelation. The blue and pink fringed-top is prominent on my hand-painted surrey and the wagon wheels turn endlessly in a tribute to an American musical legend that will be loved forever. Oklahoma!
