DOVES AND ROSES 

Fifty-two cent stamp

This Love stamp is a pretty one and for my hand-painted cachet I decided to expand and embellish the design subject. The result is really a colorful and crisp painting which features a pair of doves framed by a beautiful border of multi-colored roses. With blooms of red, yellow, peach, and pink, the roses give this FDC a vibrant and distinct look. It's quite different from the usual cachet. At the same time, the careful choosing and mixing of watercolors to achieve just the right tones prevents the artificial look that so often occurs in commercial art. This COLLINS is a good example of what individual hand painting can produce for our hobby.

The new fifty-two cent stamp has a Niagara Falls First Day cancel. I like the way the stamp and postmark blend naturally with my cachet design. This is one of my personal favorites of any Love cover I've ever offered. A pair of very realistic doves with their natural colorings contrasting so perfectly with a beautiful, bouquet wreath-like border of blooming roses in life-like shaaes. Love. Item #S2201. $11.00.
