Sylvester Cat and Tweety Bird

Last year, my Bugs Bunny FDC was a big hit with collectors. I used intense, bold color which made it quite different in appearance from my usual painting style. The stamp became "a part of the cachet" as it was incorporated into the scene. Uncle Sam, working in his Victory Garden, was suspicious of Bugs, who stood by his mailbox a short distance away chomping on a fresh carrot.

This year, with the next stamp in this series, I decided to continue in the same direction, putting the new stamp at the heart of the action. Tweety is atop a mailbox with Sylvester in hot pursuit as usual. The aggressive cat is unaware that a mailman is approaching--determined to put an end to the mischievous activity taking place in a United States mailbox. The bulldog mailman, attired in Postal Service uniform, silently sneaks up behind the naughty Sylvester with his net at the ready. It is a delightfully different First Day Cover.

As with my Bugs Bunny of last year, one stamp is canceled First Day of Issue. A second is cleverly used in the design to create the drama that is starting to unfold. The bright colors bring a cartoon life to the hand painted cachet--right down to the two butterflies who watch with curiosity. We all know that the mailman always makes his deliveries, but in this case, we can wonder, will our bulldog postman scoop Sylvester off the mailbox and save Tweety Bird? Item #T2801. $12.75
