Romantic Couples of the World
Anthony and Cleopatra
In 48 B.C., Julius Caesar declared Cleopatra the Queen of Egypt. In 47 B.C., Mark Anthony became the regent of the Eastern Roman Empire, which included Egypt. In 41 B.C., Cleopatra traveled to Tarsus, and it was during this journey that the Egyptian queen and the Roman regent fell in love. Mark Anthony and Cleopatra returned to Egypt where she gave birth to twins. Unfortunately, their romantic and political alliance ended tragically with a double suicide.
The hand painted cachet depicts the beautiful and alluring Cleopatra as well as the rugged and handsome Mark Anthony. Watercolors bring the scene to life with period dress and pyramids in the background — making the portrayal of this famous romantic couple very realistic. You will love adding this
very interesting FDC to your collection.
The tale of Anthony and Cleopatra has become legendary, and their story has been told and retold down through the centuries. I'm pleased to add them to my Romantic Couples series as I offer the Roman officer and his lovely Cleopatra — Queen of the Nile. Collins #D3601 — $12.50.
