Crops of the Americas - Corn

Pilgrims Cachet

During the early years of the Plymouth Bay Colony, the survival of the Pilgrims and early settlers was particularly dependent on the assistance of local tribes. The sharing of the Indian crops as well as seed corn brought from England helped the new arrivals to stave off starvation until the colony was well established. The origins of our day of thanksgiving national holiday is traced back to this time in our --country's history.

My individually hand painted cachet shows a young Pilgrim couple enjoying their simple but ample meal in front of a stone fireplace. In the foreground, three husked ears of corn are the main focal points which complement the new stamp perfectly. The use of natural-tone watercolors makes this an excellent First Day Cover.

This Thanksgiving/Pilgrims cachet now joins the previously announced Jack and the Beanstalk and Halloween covers in the Crops of the Americas set. Corn — Collins #E5001 — $13.25.
