Benjamin Franklin

Scientist

Collins Cover Announcement

Benjamin Franklin

Scientist

It has been awhile since this revered patriot  and founding  father  was honored on a new stamp. It's fitting that a set of four has been issued to commemorate the 300th Anniversary of his birth. lie was born in Boston in 1706. Each of the four stamps will depict Franklin in a different role in his varied and interesting life. Featured will be Franklin the statesman, the scientist, the printer, and the postmaster. To add a nice touch to this set of four, I've affixed the respective new stamps in the four corners — a different one for each subject. The stamps are postmarked with a super pictorial cancellation showing a Franklin profile outline.

The first cover of the series shows Franklin the scientist. On the far left of the envelope, a large Ben is shown in portrait form with arms folded and wearing his familiar spectacles. The rest of the hand painted cachet depicts a moon-lit but cloudy night in Philadelphia as he looks to conduct one of his famous electricity experiments using a kite. In the background is Christ Church (where he is now buried) which was ultimately protected with lightning rods that he invented. Three other major inventtions include the Franklin stove, an early battery, and his famous bifocal glasses.

With much admiration for this man of many talents, I'm pleased to offer the first of four Benjamin Franklin watercolored First Day Covers. The Scientist — Collins #F4102 —$13.25.
