Alpine Tundra
Set of ten Available at one per month
This is a hand painted set that I have long anticipated offering. The animals depicted live in the alpine tundra areas of our country at high elevations at or above the line where tall trees can exist. In this case, the creatures on the beautiful new nature stamps call Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado their home.
Early on, I decided to do this set of wildlife cachets in a close-up format. By doing so, realistic details can be magnified and enhanced and multiple-layers of watercolor shading make the various animals very life-like. The black and white illustrations cannot do justice to the striking beauty of these individually hand painted cachets.
The first three T will be sending are the powerful bighorn sheep, the majestic golden eagle, and the regal Rocky Mountain elk. In each case I have chosen my cachet subject to complement the scene presented on the stamp. The bighorn sheep stamp depicts a young ram — my cachet the mature reigning monarch of the herd. The golden eagle stamp shows this swift, soaring raptor in flight while my closeup cachet captures the finite details of geometric feathers, piercing eye, and hooked beak. The elk on the stamp are grazing in a lush, mountain meadow with towering, snow-draped peaks behind.
and my watercolored cachet presents a mature bull elk wise with his many years of survival and dominance. It is my belief that the mini-ature works of wildlife art that comprise this set will be judged the best produced by any cachetmaker.
You will absolutely love the above three cachets and the others that comprise this lovely set, including the Magdalena alpine butterfly amid a multi-colored patch of Rocky Mountain wildflowers; the elusive white-tailed ptarmigan with color patterns that are amazing; and the American pika with a soft, furry coat and an inquisitive expression that is so endearing. Every single Collins cachet in this set will enhance your collection, and it all starts with the magnificent bighorn sheep with massive curved horns and the straight-on eye contact that proclaims him king of the alpine tundra. I'm pleased to offer this superb set of ten at one per month which makes it affordable for every hobby budget. Alpine Tundra — Collins numbers S4301 to S4310 at $13.25 each.
