A Day in America
This new issue of four stamps shows our flag flying at different times of the day. Wanting to build on this theme, I decided to show some of our citizens at different times in their lives — youth representing morning,_ adulthood representing mid-day, middle age representing afternoon, and senior citizens representing evening. The concept turned out great, and I'm sure you'll enjoy them.
To start out, I'm using the youth activity of scouting. A Girl Scout and Boy Scout proudly wear their uniforms and, as always, this First Day Cover will prove to be very desirable within the hobby because "scouting" is a strong philatelic topical in collecting. The "flag at morning" stamp and the First Day postmark are in the upper left. As I announce the remaining three covers in this series, the stamps and cancels will progress across the top of the envelope — representing the sun progressing during the day from dawn to sunset. At the same time, the Americans shown will progress from the dawn of their lives (youth) to the evening of their lives (seniors). In all cases, the cachets will be very uplifting and dedicated to the service that our citizens provide to their communities and country. (The next one will feature young adults serving in the Coast Guard.) As always, each and every cachet will be individually hand painted in watercolors.
As a former Boy Scout and Explorer Scout, I'm pleased to present the first one in the "A Day in America" series — our flag flying in the morning. Collins #J4401 —$13.25.
