During the 1920s, Bette appeared in various plays on Broadway in New York City before moving to Hollywood in 1930. Her first movie roles were with Universal Studios, but her career took off when she joined Warner Bros. in 1932. Throughout the rest of that decade and most of the 1940s, she was one of Hollywood's most celebrated leading ladies. Her acting style was perfect for forceful and intense roles.
