Abraham Lincoln - 16th President

Lincoln as a Rail-splitter

Collins Cover Announcement

Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial

Rail Splitter

This is the first cachet in the mini-series of four new Abraham Lincoln stamps. They were issued to celebrate the 200th year of his birth in 1809. Each of the four stamps shows Lincoln at a different phase of his life.

Almost everyone knows that he was born in a log cabin on America's frontier. As a youth, Abe worked long and hard splitting logs into lengths that were used in the countless rail fences of that time period. This portion of his life would serve him well because when he became a candidate for President in later years, the "rail-splitter" image was used to enhance his appeal to the voters.

My hand painted cachet is a beauty. It shows Lincoln as a young man using a mallet and wedge to split logs. A cabin much like the one that was his birthplace is shown as is a section of a rail fence commonly in use. The colors really came together nicely on this one, and I know you will hilly enjoy this set of four.

Now available is Abraham Lincoln — Rail Splitter. Collins #C4601 — $14.00.
