Abraham Lincoln - 16th President
Lincoln as President
Collins Cover Announcement
Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial
President
This mini-set of four concludes with an individually hand watercolored cachet that captures the quiet dignity and greatness that was Abraham Lincoln. In fact, in our country's two time periods of great peril, it is almost unbelievable that George Washington and Abraham Lincoln were chosen by the people to lead — one to guide a new nation past the pitfalls that would unravel a fledgling democracy and one that would steadfastly take the nation to war against itself to maintain one united country. Everyone "knows" their greatness, but with the mere passage of time, I think the scope and fullness of their accomplishments become somewhat blurred and diminished. I hope, that as time goes by, the importance of individual rights as well as those of our fifty individual states are not smothered by an all-powerful and too bureaucratic central government. The successful historic endeavors of George and Abe demand it.
The design and color combination of this cachet ensures that it will be one of the finest produced for this issue. Foremost is the familiar and unique face of President Lincoln. The portrait is in the center of the envelope and the hand painting brings a lifelike presence to this great leader. To his left, a Union drummer symbolizes the tragedy of the Civil War as well as the ultimate victory that preserved the country. On the right side of the cover, the stars and stripes provides a backdrop for both the President and the first sentence of Lincoln's Gettysburg address. To the upper left, the signature of Abraham Lincoln is used (as it is on the previous three cachets) to entitle the cover.
I'm pleased to offer the final cover in the set — President. Collins #C4604 — $14.00.
