The stamp design for this issue was kept simple, but I thought the coloring was fairly attractive. A dark background with the glass vials, test tubes and a graphic analysis chart in the foreground are all presented in colors that contrast pleasingly with the background. A single has the "First Day of Issue" cancel from the official city of New York. A second stamp is unofficially canceled from Hope, N.J. It is a good cancel with killer bars. Health research holds "hope" for millions of people, so it certainly is a nicely related unofficial.

The hand-painted cachet shows a researcher conducting a laboratory experiment. In the forearound is apparatus and the containers hold somber colored fluids that correspond with the somber stamp. The researcher, in white lab coat, is intent in his work. A red border surrounds the cachet. Item #F801 - $5.50.
