Collins Cover Announcement

Cowboys of the Silver Screen

WILLIAM HART

William Hart was one of the very first big stars of the motion picture Western. He was fascinated by the "Old West" and actually was a friend of Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson. Starting in 1914, after a couple of supporting roles, he achieved star status when he got the leading role in "The Bargain. " Hart insisted on realism in his films, and they are now noted for their authentic costumes and props.

By the 1920s, this brand of realistic Western began to be overshadowed by flashier stars and lots of fast-action scenes. His last movie was "Tumbleweeds" in 1925 and, although it is still acclaimed as an early Western epic, it only did fairly well at the box office. This cowboy of the Silver Screen has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in 1975 he was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. I'm pleased to present my cachet for "Two Gun Bill. " William S. Hart — Collins
