Cowboys of the Silver Screen

GENE AUTRY

Born on September 29, 1907 near Tioga, Texas, Gene Autry was destined to become one of America's greatest cowboy entertainers ever. Starting in the 1930s, he began a three-plus decade run of starring on the radio, television and in the movies. His signature song was "Back in the Saddle Again" and he rode his horse Champion across the western plains thwarting the bad guys and bandits time after time.

During the same timeframe, he became a popular Country and Western music recording star. Three of his hit tunes were Christmas songs — "Here Comes Santa Claus" (which he wrote); "Frosty the Snowman" and his biggest title "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer." In his later years from 1961 to 1997, he owned Major League Baseball's California Angels.

Gene Autry is a member of both the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville and the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. He's the only person to have five individual stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for different accomplishments. My individually hand painted cachet for "The Singing Cowboy" is now ready. Gene Autry — Collins #M4703 — $14.00.
