U.S. Merchant Marine

Clipper Ship

Collins Cover Announcement

Merchant Marine Ships

The commercial ships owned by the private sector and operated by either our government or American civilian companies or individuals are referred to as the United States Merchant Marine. Its purpose is to transport goods and services in and out of United States territorial waters. In peacetime, the ships move cargo and passengers between nations and within America fill the same role plus operate and maintain vessels of all sizes on the Great Lakes, rivëfs, harbbis and other waterways.

My individually hand painted First Day Covers will provide a historical look at our Merchant Marine ships. The Collins set of four begins with the era of the clipper ship. These fast and sleek sailing ships first plowed the seas at the time of the 1849 California Gold Rush. The square-rigged sails were majestic, and the clippers set numerous speed records during their time in history.

This mini-set of four begins with a classic clipper ship sailing through white-capped waves, and it truly makes a magnificent sight. The timeframe of these exciting voyages of wooden ships and iron men was an era when unfurled canvas caught the wind and sent the clipper ships into our Maritime history. Collins #H4901 — $14.00.
