Collins Cover Announcement

Lancaster County Pennsylvania

High-value one-dollar, five-cent Stamp

High-value stamps on First Day Covers are historically very desirable items because the numbers of FDCs produced by the hobby's cachetmakers are always substantially less than for regular issues. This stamp depicts the lush green rolling farmland of south central Pennsylvania. On the stamp, small in the distance, is the familiar horse and buggy of the Amish and Pennsylvania Dutch. Linda and I visit the area once or twice a year, and- it's one of my favorite spots in Am-erica. Especially when we leave the highways and drive the back roads and sparsely traveled country lanes.

Since the well-cared-for horses and simple black buggies are such icons to the area, I decided to expound on the distant one in the stamp and bring it to the forefront in my hand painted cachet. The sleek horse is in harness and hitched to the familiar-looking buggy. It waits patiently with eager anticipation to the morning's trot. In the background is the family barn with a colorful hex sip hung near the peak.

The approach I took for this watercolored cachet was plain and simple just like many of the folks in Lancaster County. The pastoral, serene stamp set the tranquil tone, and I wanted to take the opportunity to present the area's quaint, functional, and picturesque mode of transportation in a close-up depiction. My Pennsylvania Dutch horse and buggy cover is now ready. Lancaster County — Collins #C5001 at $15.00.
