Ferrer was considered one of the most gifted actors of his generation. In 1947 he won the very first Tony Award for Best Actor. He was nominated for three Academy Awards — "Joan of Arc" in 1949, "Cyrano de Bergerac" in 1951; and "Moulin Rouge" in 1953. He won the Oscar in 1951 for his portrayal of the sword-dueling, swashbuckling poet Cyrano. Previously he had played the role on __Broadway, and to this day he is one of a very few actors_to_win both an Oscar and a Tony for playing

the same character on stage and in a movie.

My individually hand painted cachet captures Ferrer in his film role. Cyrano is a nobleman serving in the French Army and is a strong-willed man with many talents. He's a remarkable swordsman, a gifted poet, and an accomplished musician. But...he has an extremely large nose which causes acute selfdoubt and prevents him from expressing his love for the beautiful Roxane. A fellow officer, Christian, sends love letters to Roxane that were actually written by Cyrano, and it is only years later that she learns that it was Cyrano who had loved her for so long. Shortly thereafter he dies in her arms as she tells him that she loves him.

This watercolored cachet features a fine rendition of Ferrer in his period dress with plumed hat, large collar, and colorful tunic. Nearby, the lovely Roxane gazes at the man who could not bear to express his love to her. Jose Ferrer in his brilliant role as Cyrano de Bergerac is now ready. Collins #P5001 at $14.00.
