Julîette Gordon Low - Foundier of the Girl Scouts
In 1911, Juliette Low met Sir Robert Baden-Powel —the founder of the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides in England. When she returned to America, Juliette wanted to further the youth organization. In her hometown of Savannah, Georgia, she held a meeting on March 12, 1912 with 18 girls in attendance. She proclaimed, "I've got something for the girls of Savannah, and all of America, and all the world, and we're going to start it tonight."
That group was registered as the first American Girl Guides and shortly thereafter was changed to the Girl Scouts. Members were taught to be good citizens and had the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors through camping and hiking.
My individually hand painted cachet shows Juliette pinning a badge on one of her girls. Scouting covers are always popular with collectors, and I'm pleased to offer this one honoring Juliette Gordon Low — founder of the Girl Scouts. Collins #W5001 at $14.00.
