Philip Sheridan
This hand painted military cachet continues my series of portraying prominent generals of both the Union and the Confederacy. Philip Henry Sheridan was a career Army officer who had a close association with Ulysses S. Grant. He rose in rank quickly and during the Civil War was promoted from command of an infantry division to Officer-in-Charge of the Cavalry Corps in the Army of the Potomac.
A dedicated and skillful officer throughout the war, Sheridan defeated the Southern forces in the Shenandoah Valley, and in 1865 it was his cavalry that pursued General Robert E. Lee and hastened the Confederate surrender at Appomattox. In later years. Sheridan fought in the various Indian wars of the Great Plains In 1883 he was named General-in-Chief of the U.S. Army and in 1888 was promoted to the ultimate rank of General of the Army under President Grover Cleveland.
Now ready in this series is Union General Philip Sheridan. Collins #D5203 at $14.00.
