WEST VIRGINIA STATEHOOD

White-Tailed Deer Cachet

This stamp was issued to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of West Virginia statehood. It shows the rolling mountains bathed in the golden haze of an October morning. Continuing with the mountain theme, I decided to show an awesome large rack buck framed by the magnificent rolling hills and vibrant flowers panorama. This is an incredible individually hand painted cachet, and it exceeded my expectations. It's a beauty!

A white-tailed deer such as the one on this cover can weigh up to 250 pounds and occasionally more. When in flight, the tail is raised revealing a white underside and thus the name. They are plant browsers feeding on leaves, twigs, water plants, acorns, grass and, unfortunately, many household flowers and shrubs. The white-tail deer is our most common deer, and spotting themin the wild is always a pleasure. Everthing worls together in this watercolored cachet to make it one of my personal favorites for the year. The buck is majestic, the bright blooms striking, and the mountains breathtaking. Wild West Virginia. Collins #F5201 at $14.00.
