Boston Harbor Light

This historic lighthouse is built on Little Brewster Island in outer Boston Harbor. The first light to be built on this site was in 1716 and was the very first lighthouse to be built in what is now the United States. The current tower dates to 1783 and is the second oldest working lighthouse in the U.S. after Sandy Hook, New Jersey. The Boston Harbor Lighthouse was designated as a

National Historic Landmark in 1964.

As with the other covers in this hand painted Collins set, the cachet is done in vertical format. This gives me the opportunity to present these picturesque lights in a larger and more detailed manner. The realistic water colors provide excellent examples of philatelic seascape art.
