Kaleidoscope Fantasies

This colorful set of four new stamps offered a cachet challenge that I was anxious to accept. Obviously I could not merely do geographic shapes of various colors, so I decided to approach my cover designs from the "fantasy" element that is present in the whimsical world of kaleidoscope viewing. I chose to concentrate on the wonderful colors of the stamps and used them in illustrations of popular fantasies and-folkl-ore.-Th-e result was 6x1ra-ordinary, and- starting with the- rnerrnaid-in her water El-y- pool, this fanciful foursome will also visit a delightful Irish leprechaun and his pot of gold; a mythical prancing unicorn; and an enchanting fairy exploring a colorful forest floor.

To start things off a beautiful mermaid combs her long and flowing hair in an emerald pool. The brightly colored water lilies are perfect complements to those in the kaleidoscope stamps as picuresque koi swim beneath the lily pads. This is a lovely individually hand painted cachet and starts a wonderful mini-series which will also include the fabled unicorn (a first for Collins cachets); a lovable Irish leprechaun; and an adorable fairy in a storybook setting, that will make it an endearing and sought after Collins First Day Cover. This series has the potential to be a quick sell-out as were recent cachets such as Glacier National Park and the U.S.S. Constitution (Old Ironsides).
