THE CURTISS JENNY BIPLANE
Two-dollar High-Value Stamp
The JN-4 was one of a series of biplanes built by the Curtiss Aeroplane Company. It was from the JN designnation in the name that the endearing nickname "Jenny" was derived. After World War I, this aircraft became the mainstay of American civil aviation. It was this plane that flew the first U.S. air mail flight in 1918.
Almost one hundred years ago, the post. office. issued a 24-cent air mail stamp depicting the plane. There was a printing error causing the blue image of the aircraft in the middle of the stamp to be upside down. As a result, the famous "Inverted Jenny" stamp (only one sheet was sold) became the rarest and most valuable U. S. Post Office error of all time. In 2007, a single stamp from the sheet sold for $977,500.00 at auction.
Now the Postal Service has issued a high-value two dollar version of the original stamp. For this important issue. I decided that for my individually hand painted cachet, the best and most dramatic artistic design would be a large rendition of this famous aircraft proudly soaring to its place in history through a clear blue American sky. The beautiful cachet turned out just right with a bold and uncluttered image. With the hand painting of each cover, it was possible to achieve a peat "look" of the Jenny's natural and realistic colors.
•A fairly rapid sell-out is possible, so please do not delay ordering. The new $2.00 stamp with the inverted Jenny is postmarked on the day of issue in Washington, D.C. The watercolored cachet is ready to take its place along the path of Collins covers. Now ready is the Curtiss JN-4 biplane. The wonderfully historic "Jenny." Collins #N5201 at $18.00.
