Collins Cover Announcement
Snowflakes
Strip of Five
This Collins will become a prized item in any First Day Cover collection because, I believe, very few cachetmakers did this issue. These are ten-cent snowflake stamps, and each one is different. All five images are used on this _cover, and they are tied to the envelope with the first day of issue slogan postmark.
Whenever I think of snow, my first thoughts are of the old Currier & Ives scenes of winter in New England. It was a quick decision that a traditional cachet design along those lines is what would be on the First Day Cover. A sturdy team of farm horses is hitched to the family sled for a ride through the snowy New England countryside.
The individually hand painted cachet evokes nostalgic thoughts about winters past. Sleigh bells are clearly visible on the harness, and their distinctive jungle tones in the crisp air can easily be imagined. The tall hats and shoulder capes indicate that the scene is set in the 1800s when such fashion was the norm for a social outing. The old weathered barn brings that New England "look" but the handsome team of horses really makes this cachet something special. You'll love the way it interacts with the five snowflake stamps across the top. Winter in New England. Beautifull Collins #P5201 —$14.00.
