Mae West and W. C. Fields

Collins Cover Announcement

LOVE

Mae West and W. C. Fields

W.C. Fields was a comedian, actor, and writer who became a star in 1923's Broadway musical comedy "Poppy." Prior to that, he had obtained international success as a vaudeville juggler before transforming to the featured comedian in the Ziegfield Follies. His stage and film roles were mostly sympath-etic-s-co-undrels-or-henpecked characters.- One-of-his-most-famous roles-was-when-he played opposite Mae West in "My Little Chickadee."

Mae West was an actress, singer, playwright, and screen writer whose career spanned several decades. Vaudeville and stage plays in New York City were her show business starting points, but she quickly moved to Hollywood and the motion picture industry. In 1939 Universal Pictures chose West to appear in "My Little Chickadee" with Fields. It was a box office success and significantly fueled the careers of both stars.

My hand painted cachet captures a famous scene from the movie, and I'm pleased to add these early movie stars to my "Romantic Couples" series. Mae West and W.C. Fields.
