Wilt Chamberlain

Walt was a superb athlete who became a dominant player in the world of professional basketball. After a wonderful college career at the University of Kansas, he joined the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters for one season. He then was signed by the National Basketball Association's Philadelphia Warriors. He was excited to be joining the team in the city where he was born in 1936 and where he had played his high school basketball.

Chamberlain's rookie season can only be described as unbelievable. He averaged 37.6 points and 27 rebounds per game. Incredibly, the first year player won not only the "Rookie of the Year" award but the League's "Most Valuable Player" award as well. Wilt went on to lead the NBA in scoring his first seven seasons and on March 2, 1962 scored a league record 100 points in a single game. It is a record that still stands and may never be broken.
