Winter Flowers — Christmas Cactus
It is with a high sense of personal satisfaction that I begin to offer this mini-set of four. As a cachetmaker approaching four decades of experience, I always try to take creative advantage of stamps that offer a chance to think "outside of the box." These four winter flowers provide such an opportunity, and I jumped at the chance.
Americana became my working theme, and I ended up with four cachet subjects that will really make these covers something special. The first one shows the only surviving American wooden whaling ship at its home port in historic Mystic, Connecticut. The magnificent vessel is viewed through a dockside window with a beautiful Christmas cactus blooming nearby. It is a magnificent watercolored cachet, and, in addition to being sought by future Collins collectors, it will also be sought by flower, ship, and U.S. history topicalists. A quick sell-out, like with the recent snowflakes cover, is a possibility, so please order on a timely basis.
The picturesque Americana subject of the next Collins cachet in this mini-series will be located in the lovely countryside of rural Upstate New York. Trust me, this set of four is what First Day Cover collecting is all about, so be sure to start now with the first one and get all four. You'll be very happy you did. The awesome whaling ship Charles W. Morgan as viewed with the lovely Christmas cactus is now available. Collins #F5304 at $15.00.
