Heston grew up in greater Chicago and studied acting at Northwestern University. In World War II he served in the Army Air Corps as a bomber crew member. When the war was over, he moved to New York City where he secured several roles on Broadway. In 1950 Heston appeared in his first movie Dark City.

His film career flourished in the Fifties and Sixties as he became one of the nation's most successful leading _men. In 1956 it was Moses in The Ten Commandments. In 1959 it was _the title role of Ben-Rur. And in 1968 he was the astronaut who discovered The Planet of the Apes.
