"The Hustler"

This 1961 movie tells the story of a small-time pool hustler named *Fast Eddie" Felson and his efforts to break into the world of high-stakes betting and professional hustling. Eddie manages to get a game against the legendary pool player "Minnesota Fats" (played by Jackie Gleeason) and from there the drama twists and turns as plot develops. The screenplay for the film has been designated by the Writers Guild of America as the 96th best motion picture of all time.

My individually hand painted cachet shows Newman lining up a shot as Gleason looks on. The new stamp is tied to the envelope with a bullseye first day of issue postmark.

The film was shot on location in New York City and also started Piper Laurie and George C. Scott. In the 55 years since its release, The Hustler has solidified its reputation as a classic.
