A total eclipse occurs when the dark silhouette of the moon completely blocks the bright light of the sun. The sun's distance from earth is about 400 times that of the moon, and the sun's diameter is about 400 times that of the moon.

ln this individually hand painted cachet, the progression of various eclipse stages can be seen as the moon passes in front of the sun. This very limited cachet was produced for Collins subscribers only and as such will be very difficult to find on the open market.
