The first scheduled U.S. air maii service began on May 15, 1918. On hand for the departure of the first flight were President Woodrow Wilson, Assistant Secretary of the Navy Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Postmaster General Albert S. Burleson. This Collins first day cover has the day of issue bullseye postmark of May 1, 2018 which celebrates the 100th Anniversary of U.S. Air Mail Service.
The individually hand painted cachets show the Curtiss "Jenny'" biplane that was used in the early days when six such planes where flown byArmy pilots to deliver the mail between Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City.
