The beautiful Mallard Duck is common throughout the continental United States. The male has a striking green head that sometimes appears fluorescent in bright sunlight. A distinctive white neck band separates the green head from the rest of the body. The female has a nice feather pattern of mottled browns and tans. In spring she often has a brood of eight to ten ducklings swimming after her.
