Federal Duck 1990

Black-Bellied Whistling Duck

Fred's Anecdotal Note

1990 FEDERAT UIGRATORY BIRD STAMP

This is an important cover in the MILFORD series as it is the first Federal MTLFORD. The Brack-Bellied Whistling Duck is found in the southwest portion of the United States so I chose to use the topical cactus stamps to meet postage requirements. They, and the $12.50 Federal stamp, are tied to the cover by the "Duck Stamp Station" pictorial First Oay cancel.

The hand-painted cachet shows the duck perched on a limb protruding from a waterhole -- welcomed oasis in the harsh habitat. Sky and water are used along with the emerald green reeds to bring stiring colors to this setting for the unusual looking Black-Billed Duck. 304 covers were serviced.
