California 1990
Canada Geese by Ronald Louque
Summer 2025 Mail Sale Commentary
Lot 37 MILFORD 90-38 — California 1990 — 9/11/90
Canada geese are native to North America, breeding in Canada and the northern United states. It's a large species of goose with a black head and neck, white cheeks, white under its chin and a brown body. Like most geese, the Canada goose is primarily herbivorous and normally migratory. They are often found on or close to fresh water or in brackish marshes, estuaries, and lagoons.
My hand-painted cachet shows a family of Canada geese on a northern California pond. A single duckling has found a niche of his own as the other family members swim by a stand of redwood trees. Each of the three stamps on the cover has "California" printed on it. The condor and quail issues complement the bold and beautiful $7.50 California Duck.
An interesting aspect of this issue is the serial number sequence system. They are numbered in groups of twenty-five as indicated by the last two digits. Numbers used on this MILFORD were 10-01 to 23-10. Also of interest is that this is one of very few Collins or MILFORD covers printed on colored envelopes,—The tan background creates a very nice backdrop for the three stamps and the scene with Canada geese.
