Lot 2 R101 — Christmas Rocking Horse 1978— 10/18/78

I remember well traveling to Holly, Michigan for the first day of issue. After getting the official Holly cancel on a plate number single, it was a quick flight back to Newark from which I drove south for a beautiful Mount Holly, NJ first day postmark on an additional single. My hand painted cachet features a holiday snowman sporting a top hat with holly sprig and colorful scarf and mittens. He has a carrot nose, a pipe, and is holding a broom on which a cheerful snowbird is perched. It's a very festive and colorful cover and, along with Q101, is my first Christmas cachet. Collectors love this one as Collins is the only cachetmaker with two different Holly first day postmarks. Awesome.
