It was out to Holiday, California for a rare West Coast issue date for a Christmas stamp. A single has the Holiday bullseye postmark. It was then on to the Sierras and the mountain community of Big Pine. A very fine unofficial First Day cancel was obtained here which leads into the cachet theme.

High in a snow-covered mountain meadow, a farm house warmly beckons in the distance -- smoke curling upward from its chimney. In the foreground, two draft horses pull a wooden sled upon which lies a big pine tree -­soon to be decorated with ornaments and lights. The tree will stand in the parlor, bringing holiday cheer to the desolate high country farm.

The hand-painted cachet portrays the annual tradition of "bringing home the tree". Both California cancels (official from Holiday and unofficial from Big Pine) enhance the FDC. You will truly enjoy adding this Christmas cover to your collection. Item #E1301. $7.50
