Two whales frolic near shore in this hand-painted cachet.

One dives with his tail in vertical position pointing upward. The water makes a big splash as the large mammal heads downward. Nearby, a companion whale breaks the surface as a large head appears above the waves. The water is a lovely turquoise sparkling on a bright day with sea birds flying about. In the distance, a green shoreline becomes a thin, dividing border between the living ocean and the cloud filled powder blue sky.

The First Day cancel is a round pictorial with lighthouse, gulls, and beach from Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Handpainted postcards are scarce FDCs not often produced. You'll enjoy owning it and the others in the series. Item #B1601. $8.00.
